External link fix

I fixed it so the inline external links e.g. work again by automatically opening in a new window, instead of you having to right click and open in new window. Hope that helps.

I also finally got my new opensuse 10.2 linux development system up and running. I managed to get both zend and maya plus the xgl desktop effects library called beryl running. Now I am happy and you can expect more development from me.

IE operation aborted bug

The bug happens in IE when a DOM node is appended to the body before the body finishes loading. It is lame and fucking stupid that it can't just gracefully die like other systems/errors. It is especially dumb how it really fucks up IE 7 and makes it leave the page.

As is typical with microsoft trash software it give syou no real feedback as to what cause the error or how to handle it. Fuck you microsoft and your dim witted development for wasting my life on such a consistent basis with your piece of crap software. I cannot could the hundred of hours that have been stolen from my life because of your stupidity and laziness.

Comment Problem Solved

Well one good thing came out of this (e:ladycroft) and (e:matthew) drama. I figured one of the stupid comment bugs that was forcing the comments to not show up in the right order sometimes! Finally. Okay truth is I never looked into it until now but (e:matthew) just called to say that his latest comment was not showing up on (e:ladycrofts,335) and I looked into it.

I was that the comments were not explicitly set to order in a certain order and SQL knows no order other than the one specified. Usually it was fine but ocassionally it would provide them in some random order. Silly oversight but it is fixed now so rest assured your comments will show up in the proper order.

No more transparent pngs in IE 6

I forgot to mention this. I removed my script for making trasnparent PNGs in IE. For example you may notice the conrol panel icons and theme icons have blue/grey backgrounds whereever they should be transparent.

It took to long for the browser to apply the filter required to all the little images and would freeze the browser for a second while it loaded which annoyed the fuck out of me. I am not going to make a whole other set of ugly transparent gifs to replace the pngs, so from now on IE 6 users will see the blue/grey broder around all pngs. Blame IE for sucking so bad. IE 7 has fixed this uberlame problem.

You could alread upgrade to IE 7 beta, although, I would just switch to firefox if I were you and wait for the IE 7 final to come out.

Upgrades and Linux Users

1. Thanks (e:uncutsaniflush), he helped me discover what everyone thought was the apostrophe eating bug in the chat. It actually had nothing to do with apostrophes, and everything to do with a few spelling errors in the spell check module (does anyone else see irony in that.) It was incorrectly trying to fix the word I'm (contraction: I am) and couldn't without the apostrophe.

In the future when anyone has a bug with the chat and/or any estrip feature I would like more information about the error, such as a copy of the text you are trying to send. I also need to know the operating system, the browser, if any errors showed up and what media plugins you have installed. Oh how I dream of the days when I had (e:twisted) on QA. She was the best bug squasher ever.

I am no longer dealing with bug reports that start out with it just doesn't work. I need more feedback or it's not getting worked out. This is not a commercial site where anyone has paid for service. I provide the site and thousands of dollars/hours of my personal time and require only a few things when people report bugs so that I don't have to spend hundred of hours hunting down the problems.

This issue could have been over months ago if anyone had given me an example of what they were typing when the chat "ate" their line of text. It is a lot easier than me having to try and type every possible word variant. I was not just any apostrophe as was obvious by the fact that I could type don't and won't and wouldn't, it ws very specific.

2. On another note, if you are an (e:strip) user and are running linux. Do you find that it crashes firefox? I am using firefox and konquerer on Suse 9.3 with no prob on a sony viao laptop. I have also used centOS with no problem on a server workstation. I have previously tried Fedora with no problem, but not recently. However, (e:uncutsaniflush) is using some debian based linux flavors that are having a problem with crashing firefox? Anyone else have linux experience to report about. Good or bad, I want to hear. You can just respond as comments on this journal entry. I would really like to figure out what is wrong for (e:uncutsaniflush) and (e:leetee). My thoughts are that it is a media plugin related issue and I am going to test their linux on my laptop. It certainly does look pretty.

update -wow it downloaded in 45 minutes using my adelphia connection.

Bug Fix for Search and Epoetry

I fixed the bug that occured when you used the search box or a the epoetry window to get to a journal entry and the text from the search or the line of epoetry was not highlighted in the journal. Maybe no one even noticed it but it was driving me insane.
